Klimaneustart Berlin: Public initiative

In 2021, the public initiative Klimaneustart Berlin collected over 30,000 signatures for a petition to the Berlin House of Representatives calling for a citizens’ assembly on climate, which resulted in the creation of the Berlin Climate Citizens' Council.

Klimaneustart Berlin sees itself as a civil society movement that promotes exchange between citizens, scientists and politicians on an equal footing. They are currently working with a large alliance to make Berlin climate-neutral by 2030, having rewritten the Berlin Climate Protection and Energy Transition Act and collected over 260,000 signatures to obtain a referendum.
