Evaluation of the Global Assembly

This report evaluates the Global Assembly, a citizens' assembly that brought together 100 citizens from around the world to deliberate the climate and ecological crisis.

This resource assesses the first-ever Global Assembly, which brought together a group of randomly selected citizens around the world to deliberate on the question: “How can humanity address the climate and ecological crisis in a fair and effective way?” The result was the People’s Declaration for the Sustainable Future of Planet Earth presented at COP26.

The evaluation report examines the assembly’s design, implementation, and impact, highlighting innovations and best practices in inclusivity, participant engagement, and methodology. It also identifies challenges, including logistical difficulties, issues with representation and diversity, and the need for stronger institutional links to policymaking. The findings provide key lessons for improving future global deliberative processes, emphasizing the importance of sustained engagement, clear decision-making pathways, and enhanced integration with formal political structures.
