New Online Course: How to Start a Climate Assembly

Citizens’ climate assemblies or panels are one of the latest innovations in using public participation to address climate change. Local and national climate assemblies provide a space for community members to learn how climate change impacts their community or country, and then develop and propose concrete actions for the government to take. National governments have organized climate assemblies in France, the United Kingdom, and Scotland. At the local level, cities like Warsaw and Wrocław, Poland and Camden, England have held climate assemblies and panels.
In the next People Powered University online course, “How to Start a Climate Assembly,” participants will learn key lessons from climate assemblies in the UK, Poland, and France. Leading practitioners and advocates will share best practices and help participants identify next steps to advocate for and start a climate assembly in their home city or country.
This course follows our December course on how cities can use participatory budgeting to address climate change. Both courses were identified as priorities by People Powered’s boards and member organizations and are made possible thanks to funding from the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation.
