Presenting… Our First Strategic Plan!

We’re facing a global crisis of democracy, and we need to respond, together. At People Powered, we have a plan. We’re proud to share our new (and first!) Strategic Plan, which describes how we will work with you to expand people’s power over government decisions.

Since People Powered launched in July 2020, we have brought together a global community of organizations, practitioners, and researchers; compiled and shared practical resources; and developed training and mentorship programs to support innovative practices of participatory and deliberative democracy. 

Our 2021-2023 Strategic Plan, available in six languages, presents a vision for our next stage of work. We will focus on three strategic directions:

1. Build Pathways for Policy Change

Establish a pipeline of activities that moves governments to adopt, expand, and improve equitable participatory democracy programs.

2. Build the Global Community

Grow the collective power of organizations and advocates supporting participatory democracy.

3. Build the Organization

Increase the organizational capacity of People Powered to support the global participatory democracy community.

The Strategic Plan is part of a broader participatory process of planning, acting, and learning. We developed it over the past eight months, through 20 facilitated group discussions, two surveys, and one ballot for our members to vote on priorities. In total, 83 people participated - the majority women and from the Global South - from nearly 50 organizations and 30 countries. 

As we move in these strategic directions, we’ll experiment and adjust our plans based on what we learn, emerging global challenges, and political opportunities.
