Random selection tool: Sortition Magic
/A technical tool to help organize a random selection process for citizen's assemblies.
Sortition, or random selection, is a method used in citizens' assemblies to select participants by chance, ensuring equal representation and diversity. By using sortition, citizens' assemblies allow random but representative groups of people to deliberate on public issues, fostering more democratic and inclusive decision-making.
The "Sortition Magic" tool helps to organize such random selections for these assemblies efficiently, even for large groups. It is a script in R for random selection of citizens’ assemblies, based on the algorithm of simulated annealing.
It also includes a version (Sortition Magic Multicore) for advanced users that works on multiple cores of the CPU at the same time! You can use it on laptops, clusters and even supercomputers. It is especially useful when it comes to conducting a large number of draws — it simply works faster.
