Improving participatory budgeting in Indonesia

This report presents and analyzes the experience of six Indonesian cities in Indonesia in managing local participatory budgeting processes.

The study takes a comparative approach to analyzing cases of six Indonesian cities: Solo, Makassar, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, and Kebumen. Through the richness of experiences in each city, this research examines the ideal conditions for effective participatory budgeting (PB) to thrive in Indonesia. The study explores innovations and supporting policies that can be beneficial to improving the implementation of Musrenbang, Indonesia’s PB system.
