Integrating Artificial Intelligence into citizens’ assemblies
/This article explores the use of artificial intelligence in citizens’ assemblies, proposing a framework for the evaluation of benefits and limitations of their application.
This resource assesses the how artificial intelligence can be used in several different ways in various stages of a citizens’ assemblies. Using informant interviews, existing literature and drawing on the Global Assembly as a case study, the author recommends that artificial intelligence can be used in deliberation, assisting with question generation, and support participant learning among other uses.
Some of these uses can also be applied to other participatory or deliberative methodologies. However, the author notes concerns with data ethics and privacy implications, as well as trade offs with hallucinations and biases in artificial intelligence models.
