Accelerators are launching 30 new participatory programs focused on climate & innovation
Meet the 30 new participants in the Climate Democracy Accelerator (CDA) and Democratic Innovations Accelerators (DIA)! People Powered and its partners are supporting these local leaders across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe to develop new participatory programs that address big societal challenges.
We also announce the recent CDA graduates!: In Cameroon, the women of the semi-nomadic Indigenous Mbororo communities are being engaged to shape climate adaptation strategies that ensure resilience, protect their livelihoods, and strengthen their role in regional decision-making. Over in Bujaru, Brazil, Delibera Brasil is combining citizens’ assemblies and legislative theatre to tackle climate issues like deforestation and monoculture, winning the best action plan award. The list goes on!
New Resources for designing digital participation!
Does engaging the public through digital participation seem daunting? Are you looking for resources that can simplify the process and set you up for a successful, inclusive, and meaningful digital participation program?
We just launched a new Participation Playbook module and updated our free online courses on digital participation! The Playbook module can be used by governments, civil society organizations, and other institutions looking to develop action plans for meaningful digital engagement. We also offer updated digital participation online courses for government reformers who want additional support in choosing and implementing online participation tools. Learn more!
We convened 20 international organizations at a Climate Democracy Forum. Here’s what we learned.
As the climate crisis grows, governments worldwide fail to take adequate action. What would it look like for people on the ground to take the lead on climate policy?
A growing movement for climate democracy is putting this idea into practice. During the 2024 Climate Week in New York City, People Powered and the Ban Ki-moon Foundation hosted a Climate Democracy Forum to align this global work on climate participation and engagement. We convened leaders from 20 international organizations and funders, to build relationships, map the field, and prioritize actions to take our collective work to the next level.
Join our Remixing Democracy webinar to learn how to combine different democratic practices
Democratic innovations are celebrated, but too often, they take the form of isolated, one-off programs. How can we connect different innovations so that they reinforce each other and have more impact? How can we integrate these innovations into broader systems of democracy and sustain them over time?
We will answer this question at our upcoming webinar, Remixing Democracy: How to connect democratic practices into stronger ecosystems, on November 12, 10–11 AM ET! Hear speakers from Bertelsmann Stiftung, Delibera Brasil, Partners for Dignity and Rights, and People Powered share the latest methods to blend democratic practices—from citizens’ assemblies to social movements—to create stronger, more inclusive democratic ecosystems.
Call for applications: Launch or improve your participatory program by joining the Accelerators!
The Accelerators help organizations and governments work together to engage the communities in participatory decision-making on a broad range of issues. Learn more and send in your applications by November 24!
