All new resources for designing digital participation programs

Does engaging the public through digital participation seem daunting? Are you looking for resources that can simplify the process and set you up for a successful, inclusive, and meaningful digital participation program?

We just launched a new Participation Playbook module and updated our free online courses on digital participation. The Playbook module can be used by governments, civil society organizations, and other institutions looking to develop action plans for meaningful digital engagement. We also offer updated digital participation online courses for government reformers who want additional support in choosing and implementing online participation tools.

These two resources are complementary. Which of these are relevant for you?

  • If you’re a beginner: The courses can help you gain a more foundational knowledge of digital participation before designing a program.

  • If you’re more experienced or have completed the courses: The Playbook module can help you develop a step-by-step plan to design and implement a new digital participation program or improve an existing one.

Drawing on experience from around the world, both resources offer practical guidance, case studies, and strategies to help practitioners navigate the complexities of digital participation.

Learn what it takes to engage people online

The updated online courses are free, self-paced, and available in six languages. They bring together content from our guide, ratings, and case studies of digital participation at work. The courses include:

The courses are also designed to guide you through the development of your action plan using the Participation Playbook module.

Develop a customized plan for digital participation

This Participation Playbook module on digital participation is for you if you want to:

  • Integrate a digital element into your participatory program.

  • Reach more people across your geographic region through remote participation.

  • Use digital participation to include or target specific marginalized groups, such as disabled people, women, or youth.

  • Use a digital participation tool to improve the transparency of a decision-making process.

  • And more!

The module is designed to guide you through all the steps of a digital participation process, from designing your program to shortlisting, choosing, and setting up a suitable platform. By completing it, you’ll move from thinking about digital participation to making it a reality in your community. With your action plan in hand, you’ll be ready to take the first steps toward bringing your digital participation program to life.

In a time when democracy faces a host of challenges, and many people are feeling disconnected from decision-making processes, online participation can build stronger links between governments, organizations, and people. We’ve developed these resources to empower you to run participatory activities with digital tools.

The courses and Participation Playbook module are freely available. Get started today to create inclusive, accessible, and meaningful digital participation programs.
