It’s time for a fourth branch of government

By Josh Lerner and Marjan Essassi

We’d love to hear your thoughts on an article that we just published in The Boston Globe. The current model of democracy in the US is in crisis, and our institutions of government need an upgrade. We propose creating a new branch of government: a randomly selected House of the People.

It’s time for a fourth branch of government

“Whether you call it a constitutional crisis or simply chaos, President Trump’s second term makes clear that the US system of democracy is falling apart…

Our institutions have struggled to respond to this spiraling crisis. It’s time for a new approach: A House of the People – a permanent citizens’ assembly. This fourth branch of government would be composed of ordinary Americans, selected by lottery.

And yes, this is a realistic proposal, even now.”

Read the article to learn how we could launch this now, and why this is an essential long-term strategy to fix the deep flaws in our democracy. Please share this email and the article with your networks, and let us know if you can help turn this idea into reality.
