A year after the conclusion of the Conference on the Future of Europe, there was much talk about overhauling the EU and promoting more inclusive decision-making, resulting in the European Commission introducing the 'next-gen' European Citizens’ Panels. But, has there been any significant impact from the Conference and these novel democratic tools like the ECPs?Do the ECPs and other participatory exercises have the capacity to fulfill a broader democratic function in EU institutional processes?
This is the first online event of the EU Democracy Reform Observatory’s “Democracy Reform Conversations” and will discuss the key findings of the Observatory’s latest publication – ‘Assessing European Citizens’ Panels: Greater Ambition Needed’ (out online on September 4th). The EU Democracy Reform Observatory is a joint initiative of Bertelsmann Stiftung, European Policy Centre, King Baudouin Foundation and Stiftung Mercator, to foster debate on modernising European democracy.
