To effectively address the climate crisis, governments must engage citizens and civil society in creating and implementing impactful climate policies. By incorporating broader public participation and amplifying marginalized voices, governments can ensure that climate initiatives are both equitable and responsive to the needs of diverse communities.
In this third lecture of International IDEA’s Stockholm Series on Climate Change and Democracy, Greta Ríos, Co-Executive Director at People Powered, will present inspiring global examples of governments successfully involving citizens in shaping climate policies. Through mechanisms like participatory budgeting, legislative theatres, and other participatory governance models, countries are creating resilient communities and building more democratic climate solutions.
Keynote Speaker: Greta Ríos, People Powered
Discussant: Sara-Elvira Kuhmunen, President of Sáminuorra
