Join our next research-to-practice talk online to hear two international democracy experts discuss the latest research findings and how to apply them to strengthen and sustain citizen engagement in legislative institutions.
In the midst of a global decline in public trust and a rise in populism, people are becoming more dissatisfied with legislative institutions, which have long been seen as the hallmark of democracy. As a result, legislative authorities are increasingly adopting more participatory and deliberative initiatives to involve the public in their work and decision-making.
Based on her work in Kenya’s legislative institutions, Brenda Ogembo will discuss how to sustain citizen engagement in ways that are not dependent on donor funding. She has experience conducting research on deliberative and participatory democracy as both an academic researcher and a practitioner working with government entities. John Kinuthia, senior program officer at the International Budget Partnership Kenya, will review the practical implications for NGOs and governments.
This research talk is the second in a series prioritized by People Powered members in the 2022 planning process.
