Legislators and Citizens Working Together

Drawing on data from 80+ parliaments, international researchers will make recommendations on how governments can more effectively engage the public.

Speakers will discuss the March 2022 Global Parliamentary Report, which explores how over 80 parliaments around the world engage their publics. The report examines why public engagement matters, how parliaments conduct public engagement, and presents recommendations on how to do it more effectively.

Speakers and their topics include:

Maya Kornberg, lead researcher and author of the report, will present some key findings and highlight their relevance to the United States context. She will be joined by two other experts who took part in the research.

Louisa Wall, an MP from New Zealand, will discuss why engagement matters and present some examples of using engagement to lift up marginalized voices.

Derek Dignam, former head of communications for the Parliament of Ireland, will share from his experience about best practices and future directions for public engagement.
