Childhood in Local Development - International Seminar on the Direct Participation of Schoolchildren in Decision-Making

This seminar will offer a dialogue on child and youth participation, from the local to the global, with speakers from the school environment, public administration, research groups, and the professional world.

Since 2019, the Children's Agora program has been developed in Uruguay. This initiative has also been implemented in schools in more than 60 municipalities in Spain, with remarkable results in improving democratic skills and political knowledge, empowerment, subjective well-being and inclusion within the participating groups.

An agreement between Coglobal and the School of Governance of San José (Uruguay) made possible the launch of this experimental initiative for children's participation in three schools in the department of San José. The objective was to allow students in rural areas to autonomously allocate a budget provided by the local government, aimed at improving the quality of life in their localities.

With the announcement of "Childhood in Local Development - International Seminar on the Direct Participation of Schoolchildren in Decision-Making" we hope to be able to make a public assessment of the experience of the Children's Agora program in very different geographical contexts. We also invite you to reflect in general terms on the role that girls, boys, and adolescents should have in the local political sphere, whether in Uruguay, Spain or other countries.
