Code for All Summit

This year will be Code for All’s third online summit, with workshops, panels and lightning talks focusing on:

  • Combatting climate change. Increased droughts, heat waves and floods are destroying the planet and affecting billions of lives. Speakers will explore and showcase civic tech work to combat climate change and its impact.

  • Fighting authoritarianism. With the pandemic came a boost in authoritarianism, including actions to restrict civil liberties, limit protests, persecute opponents, delay elections and introduce mass surveillance techniques. How have and how can civic tech communities stand up to this? Speakers discuss how to preserve freedoms, hold actors accountable and protect human rights.

  • Assuring accessibility and inclusion. Many websites and tools are difficult or impossible for people with disabilities to use. Speakers will explore the current state of accessibility and inclusion in the civic tech ecosystem and initiatives to improve it.

  • Building community engagement. Maintaining community engagement requires continuous effort, meticulous planning and a lot of grit. Speakers will debate how civic tech organizations can build authentic connections.

Note that Claire Bois from People Powered will lead a panel discussion on “Making Digital Participation Inclusive” at 12 p. m. ET (4 p.m. UTC) on September 20.
